Finally! Truly PURE Water at an Affordable Cost. REVIEW of Pure Effect Ultra-UC Water Filter

Water is the elixir of life. Yet many of us don’t concern ourselves over the quality of the water we’re drinking. It might change your mind to know that the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 covers only ninety-one contaminants, yet an estimated 60,000 chemicals are used within the United States. Many of those chemicals find their way into our streams, rivers, lakes, and ultimately, into our water supplies. According to an article appearing in the New York Times on December 7, 2009, the newspaper’s own research found that the water provided to more than 49 million people contained illegal concentrations of chemicals such as arsenic or radioactive substances such as uranium as well as dangerous bacteria often found in sewage.

Fluoride in our Water
In the U.S., about 70% of public water supplies are fluoridated. It’s said to be added for the purpose of medical treatment, yet this is unethical as we’re being forced to take a medicine irrespective to our consent, what individual doctors cannot do to individual patients. Fluoride accumulates in the body, largely in bones and pineal gland. And there has been not one single trial to demonstrate fluoridation’s safety. There have long been rumors that Nazi Germany employed fluoridated water for its potential neuro-toxic effects. Fluoride was theorized to make people more docile and easy to control, and thus it was added to water supplies in occupied regions and POW camps. I’ll leave it to online forums to continue to debate whether this is myth or historical fact, but it’s an excellent example of how little we really know about the safety of our water. We all know that tap water is full of contaminants. All tap water contains at the very least disinfectants that kill micro-organisms both in the water and in your body. Tap water wipes out virtually all the beneficial bacteria that aid in digestion, for example. In order to function, every organ and cell in our bodies need clean water.

Why I chose Pure Effect Advanced Filtration
After many years of trial and error in search for a  good water filter, I’ve finally come across one that I absolutely love and trust, and that I don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for (ahem..Kangen). Over the years, in my quest for pure health, it’s taken me years to research and to truly evaluate water filters. Pure Effect filters are specifically designed to remove toxic substances while leaving essential alkalinizing minerals, electrolytes and negative electrochemical “charges” that neutralize positively-charged free radicals found in toxic tap water.

I installed the Utra-UC Water Filter / Revitalizer around March 2013. What captivated me about this filter is that it removes a wide variety of pollutants that are not normally removed by most filters, and at an affordable price.  I was surprised by the noticeable difference in taste of the water compared to any other filter I’ve owned in the past. It tastes so much fresher and cleaner.

The Ultra-UC Water Filter / Revitalizer I own is made up of three filter cartridges:

1. AntiRad-Plus / Anti Radiation Cartridge

2. FluorSorb / Fluoride Reduction Cartridge
3. Superblock / 0.5 Micron Dual-Catalytic Carbon Block

It also comes with a dedicated faucet. Mine is installed below the sink, and I replaced the soap dispenser that was there with the faucet. Not everyone may have this option, but there are also over the counter filters. Or you can just drill a hole on your counter as well to place in the faucet.

Alkaline Water!
One of my favorite features is that it raises / balances pH to Alkaline! I thank my lucky stars to have found this filter before I decided to invest a ridiculous amount of $4K into a Kangen (alkaline water system).  It also supports natural minerals, natural electrolytes, improves Redox (Antioxidant potential of water), discourages bacterial / fungal growth, works without electricity and saves counter space as it installs under counter.

The Chemicals and Contaminants it Removes

To the best of my knowledge, this particular filter is the only All-in-One system of its kind that effectively removes 99% of the following chemicals and pollutants from your tap water:
1. Fluoride – using an all-natural alumina-free activated carbon bonded with calcium, shown to be 20% more effective at removing
fluoride than the commonly used activated alumina.
2. Radioisotopes – This is the only filter I’ve ever seen that removes radioactive particles  that get into our water from Leaking Nuclear Plants, Fukushima Fallout, and Uranium/Plutonium Mining.
3. Drug Residues – Again, the only filter I’ve found to remove drug residues that are not required by law to be removed at water treatment plants.
4. Disinfection Chemical Additives – including both Chloramines and Chlorine.
5. Disinfection Chemical By-Products – such as Trihalomethane’s (one of which is Chloroform).
6. Heavy Metals –  including Lead, Aluminum, Mercury, Barium, Iron &
Other Positively Charged metal ions.
7. VOC’s – (Volatile Organic Compounds) such as benzene, xylene and other solvents that are byproducts of the petroleum industry.
8. Agricultural Contaminants – such as pesticides, herbicides and insecticides
9. Microbial Cysts – including Giardia & Cryptosporidum, which survive disinfection.
10. Sediment – down to ultra-fine size of 0.5 Micron (approximately 50x smaller than a grain of beach sand)

Comparison with Other Filters

Screen Shot 2015-03-10 at 6.12.02 AMClick on the image above to check out how it compares with Reverse Osmosis, Gravity, and Faucet filters. It’s clear this filter is the best option for its cost.

Other AWESOME Advantages

Very Long Lasting Cartridges
 – The cartridges are made to function optimally for 500 gallons, which comes out to 8 months if using 2 gallons/day, if you’re using less than that, than they can be replaced at least once a year.  This keeps the media renewed and fresh. I’ve used the same cartridges for 2 years but know I’m a little late on replacement time.

• Antioxidants
In their testing with NY tap water, the ORP (oxidation/reduction potential of water) was reduced by approximately 25%, which means the water is LESS oxidizing than it was before going into the filter.  So some can experience even greater or lower reduction as well.

Raises Alkaline pH naturally – In nature, water is naturally balanced between 6.5- 9.0 pH (pH stands for the Power of Hydrogen, which is a measure of how acidic or alkaline something is). Using nature as their guide, the manufacturer saw that rain water makes it’s way down to the ground, then is filtered through the earth and over riverbeds, where it picks up it’s mineral/electrolyte ions and becomes naturally balanced. Taking this process into consideration, they developed their filter systems to pattern this effect naturally.

Quality Components made to last. – The high quality of the materials used is impressive, even the little lever on the auxiliary faucet moves with exceptional smoothness when I move it to retrieve the water. No part of this filter is made in China. All filtration cartridges are Made in USA. Comes with a 2-Year Hassle-Free Warranty and personalized customer care and service.

No electricity required
 (works only on water pressure).

Uses advanced Flow Regulation Technology – This ensures water does not pass through the system too quickly, and has sufficient contact time with filtration media, allowing optimal contaminant filtration.

Uses high-quality nontoxic materials – BPA-Free and Phthalate-Free plastic, lead-free metal components and highest grade filtration media.

Certifications
The media used in the filters are NSF and/or WQA certified for use with drinking water components.

The Company Behind the Product

Pure Effect Advanced Filtration is a small family-owned business based in the USA. Since I am also part of a family-owned business I can attest that these are the companies we should be supporting because there is lots of love involved in the development of the products and care for the customers and reputation of the business.

“We create filtration systems that are simple, elegant, and extremely effective at reducing the widest possible range of common contaminants. Our PureEffect Water Filter Systems protect your drinking water and help restore it back to it’s ‘naturally pure’ state, and by that we do not mean laboratory sterilized H2O stripped of everything but the water molecules, instead, our filters can make the water that enters your body ‘whole’ and ‘nutritious’ again.” “We truly love what we do, and build water filter systems which you and your loved ones can enjoy for many years to come.”

Thank You Pure Effects From the Bottom of My Heart
I’m really grateful to have come across this filtration system because I love my body and I know it needs clean water. Water is essential to life. This filter grants me the cleanest water possible in my home in comparison to many other filters in the market. Clean drinking water for everyone!

This product looks very good, but there are some concerns.

The Pure Effect website mentions that some parts are NSF certified such as housing and tubing, but there is no mention of filter or system certification. Furthermore, the NSF website return search results for this product or company. NSF certification 42 and 53 would be nice.

The lab result posted by Pure Effect only shows the effluent results (after filtration). It doesn’t show the contamination influent (before filtration). Therefore, the report doesn’t actually show anything as to the actual performance of the product.

While NSF certification is optional and apparently expensive for a small company, I would expect to see influent and effluent tests and preferably with the units being tested provided to the independent lab as opposed to just sending in water samples post filtration. Not seeing at least influent contamination level is currently preventing me from purchasing this. Otherwise after researching many other options, I would buy the Pure Effect ULTRA right now.

    Hi Jason,

Here is Pure Effects Response to your concerns:

Yes, he has valid points, in response:

    1. The NSF Certifications are not done by our company, but by our suppliers of various parts and media we use in the system. Your reader is right, unfortunately, NSF makes it prohibitively expensive for small businesses like ours to get NSF Certification (costs over $40,000), and thus, helps keep the competition low for their main customers, mainstream companies like PUR, BRITA, etc. So we found a work around, and that is to ensure what we use in our system has already been NSF and/or WQA Certified by our suppliers.

The Fluorsorb Media is NSF61 Certified, Our Catalytic Carbons are NSF61 & 42, the Heavy Metal Reduction Media (KFD55) is NSF 42 certified. The filter housings are BPA and Phthalate-Free food-grade and are NSF Certified for pressure testing and material safety. All metal parts are lead-free.

    2. Apart from doing consistent in-house testing with our own equipment (much cheaper than sending to lab every time), we still did independent lab analysis to eliminate bias, as such, I’ve attached testing we’ve done of 2 of the most difficult contaminants to remove, e.g. Fluoride, Chloramine, and Uranium.

    a. Fluoride was removed over 75%, which is quite exceptional when you are working with low fluoride concentrations to begin with (fluoride becomes more and more difficult to remove as the in-fluent concentrations get low, there is a certain scientific phenomenon that occurs), and nevertheless, at 0.73ppm our system got it down to 0.18ppm, a 75.3% reduction. (See in-fluent and effluent report attached).

    b. Chloramine was removed over 99% for at least 1000 gallons with our system, see report here:

    c. Radioactive Uranium was removed over 99%, see report here:

I hope this helps, let me know if you or your readers have any further questions. Thank you.

    Kind Regards,

While it would be nice to see NSF 53 (health effects such as giardia and lead) for the carbon filters instead of just NSF 42 (aesthetic effects such as chlorine and) and NSF 61 (health effects with respect to component contact but not about filtration performance), that additional information is very helpful. I agree that certification authorities can effectively become barriers to healthy competition in a lot of cases even if there is some value in the certification. Since the information provided indicates great performance for fluoride, chloramine, and uranium, I expect it will work very well for other contaminants even if not certified.

Overall with their good website information and this additional response from Pure Effects here including links to test results, I will give the product a try. Thanks for communicating my concerns with the manufacturer and posting this helpful response! I’m now looking forward to trying the product.
