6 Raw Foodists Over 50 That Look Decades Younger

Raw-foods-fountain-of-youth-corrected

Raw Veganism: The Fountain of Youth? Or perhaps it’s the cooked food that’s aging the average person prematurely. In any case, the following people have truly inspired me to continue my raw vegan journey for life! Their age and appearance speak volumes of how perfectly aligned the living foods lifestyle is for the human body. It is an undeniable fact that our appearance on the outside, especially after our mid years, is clear reflection of our internal health.

Meet 6 inspiring raw foodists with an appearance that will trample on any skepticism or doubt about the living foods movement:

1. Storm Talifero, 64
Storm Talifero
Storm Talifero is one of the oldest and most successful long-term 100% raw vegans in the movement today. He has been raw for over 42 years, and at age 64 he looks more like he is in his 30’s or 40’s. He’s an athlete, author, illustrator, architect and raw chef who has brought many innovative recipes to the art of raw cuisine. If you’ve read any of Storm’s e-books you’re familiar with his maxims: “Fresh is Best”, “Don’t put your food in the fire” and “Would you like your food with or without the nutrients?”. Having raised a large family, through many years Storm’s recipes have evolved into a menu plan program that has helped hundreds of people to experience the raw diet in a format that is doable in modern life. You can learn more about his work at http://TheGardenDiet.com and http://28DaysRAW.com

2. Annette Larkins, 72
Annette-Larkins
The first time I saw this Goddess was through this viral video, and I just couldn’t believe my eyes. This perfect image of health, vitality and youth with a petite size four frame and a wrinkle-free face is over 70 years of age! She has been a raw vegan for 27 years and vegan for many years before that. And she’s from my hometown!:) The resident of Miami-Dade County, Florida, attributes her youthful looks to her raw vegan diet and grows almost everything she eats in the garden she refers to as her ‘fountain of youth’. In her famous interview, ABC reporters explored her back yard, to find that every inch is covered in plants and trees that grow the fruits Mrs. Larkins eats. She told reporters “’My diet consists of fruits, nuts, vegetables and seeds. I do a lot of sprouting of seeds and as you can see from my garden and of course, these are the raw foods that I eat.’” http://www.annettelarkins.com/

3. Lou Corona, 60
lou corona
Lou was one of the first people I came across in my journey for true health. His juice recipe, the Lemon Ginger Blast absolutely changed my life. It was the effect this juice had on my life that got me curious about raw foods, and for that I’m so very grateful! Lou drinks this green juice every day and I can totally see (and feel) how this concoction contributes to this man’s superior health! Lou has been on a raw vegan diet for a whopping 39 years. Before he started the raw vegan diet he suffered from a multitude of illnesses ranging from asthma to a tumor, eventually coming to a place where he was able to heal himself from chronic asthma, severe allergies, major constipation, candida, tumors, severe acne, and debilitating arthritis. He now teaches the 4 principles that helped him gain his life back and reach outstanding health and core strength like I’ve never seen before!  You can find his work here: http://loucorona.com/

4. Tonya Zavasta, 56
Tonya Zavasta Age
Tonya Zavasta is one of my greatest heroes. This 56 year old beauty is a very witty and humorous writer, researcher, teacher, and entrepreneur. She has written 5 books on living foods and natural anti-aging, two of which I’ve read and loved. She’s been eating raw for 17 years now. With her diet and lifestyle change she conquered surgical trauma, pain and her former identity as a “cripple.” I’ve read two of her books, Quantum Eating, and Raw Food and Hot Yoga. Both are brilliant and highly recommended for the seasoned raw foodist. You can find them in my Books page. The firmness of her skin and waist size tell us that she’s really on to something. And it’s definitely not botox or plastic surgery! http://www.beautifulonraw.com/

5. Markus Rothkranz, 52
Markus Rothkranz
I remember the first time I saw Markus, I thought he was in his late 20s early 30s. Boy was I wrong. This man is 52 years old! Watch this video of him proving it, since no one believes him. He’s been eating raw foods since his late twenties, therefore he’s been raw for over 20 years. And his vibrant complexion and super fit body says it all. As you will see on his page, he looks younger than he did at 27! Markus is all about abundance, health and financial freedom. He has an inspiring channel on youtube, and has written 4 books. His background is from the movie industry and now he uses it to entertain and lead people to a better and healthier lifestyle. You can find his work at http://www.markusrothkranz.com/

6. Mimi Kirk, 75
Mimi Kirk
Feeling like you’re in your 20′s at 75, is quite an amazing thing. I accredit this youthful look and spirit not only to my attitude, but really to my way of eating which is a raw vegan – living foods lifestyle.” She was voted sexiest Vegetarian over 50, when she was actually 70 then! Although Mimi has only been raw for a few years, she attributes her youthfulness to over 40 years of 100% veganism. It was when she started feeling arthritic pains in her joints and her blood pressure was up that she looked into eating raw, and as soon as she did, the pain and pressure went away. Mimi is so vibrant and youthful! She is the author of a book called Live Raw. This woman is amazing and looks great for her age. She’s a great example of how veganism is great in maintaining youthfulness, but in contrast, raw veganism is age defying and can actually turn back the biological clock! Find Mimi’s work here: http://www.youngonrawfood.com

Now I don’t know about you, but to me, just taking a look at these marvelous beings is living proof that raw foods and natural hygiene is indeed the optimal lifestyle for human health. It clearly shows that our bodies are designed for this lifestyle. Contrary to what many of us have been led to believe, aging is NOT a normal process that is supposed to start taking place at our 30’s. Wrinkles, sagging skin, hair loss and all the ailments that follow after 30 or 40 is due to the degeneration of the body after years of punishing it with a diet void of nutrients and enzymes. That plus eating a diet of cooked (dead) foods, processed junk and artery clogging dairy and meats will certainly take a toll on your body in the form of premature aging, cancer, diabetes, heart failure and all the other life sucking problems we call “disease”.  As a 28 year old that has been raw vegan for only 1 year I can already start to see major differences in the way that I look. In fact, I saw these changes 3 months into this diet. I can only imagine how I have completely changed the entire trajectory of my life by correcting my diet. I know that at some point I’ll probably stop counting the years because it’s no longer relevant to me. In the end, you’re only as old as you feel:)

I really do not get why people insist in live that long. Such a crappy shit hole society and human miserable condition is, i do not get the point. I am not a suicide kind of person. If I live 100 more year great, if I die tomorrow also great, actually last option would be even better. lack of empathy or ignorance that’s the fountain of youth. Maybe i’m just to hiper-sensitive and too wise to be fully happy wishing a long fulfilling life kind of person.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I personally don’t see it as people trying to live longer, but simply increasing the quality of their lives. To me, my decision to live a holistic life is not about reaching an age past 100, or about beauty, or fitness levels. It’s just about feeling the best way I can feel for as long as possible, all the other stuff naturally follows. Eating the right foods, and taking care of my body is a constant affirmation of me loving myself. If I can find peace and love for myself, it’s the only way I can find that for others. I hope you find peace brother, my love to you.

Sorry, but they all look their age. Goodhearted people who do not judge have a glow from within which keeps them young and vibrant, vegan or not♡

Oleda Baker is 79 years young and also looks decades younger. She doesn’t eat an all raw diet but she takes damn good care of herself! Also there are examples of raw foodists over 50 who look their age or older.

Thanks Karmyn! What I’ve found about Oleda is that she promotes anti-aging products. Although they might work, that’s not what this post is about. However I do believe that those who pay attention to their elimination and detox functions will certainly maintain their youthfulness. Perhaps that’s part of her secret. My colon hydrotherapist was almost in her 60s and looked like she was in her 40s! She was vegan but had a colonic once per month. And of course there will be many raw foodists that won’t look as young after 50, but that may be because they haven’t been eating raw as long as these six have.

I know several examples of long term 100% raw foodists who look their age or older. Maybe genetics determine the rate of aging more than diet–of course eating healthy won’t hurt! 😉

This is all an individual thing – I went through menopause 10 years at least too early from a raw vegan diet in cold climate. The raw messed my stomach and spleen creates blood and could not function so period stopped.

Been vegetarian since 87 and vegan since 95, and have a moderate amount of raw food in the course of each month, but believe it is harmful to have an entirely raw food diet. These people are inspiring and impressive, but not any more so than comparable examples following other diets and lifestyles, such as calorie restriction and various levels of veganism, the Paleo Diet, heavily fish-based diets and so on.

    Still, not bad!:-)

Ah, a challenge! I shot off my mouth and don’t have the names on the tip of my tongue to roll off here and now to back up the claims. But, I have come across them, typically on forums, blogs and so on, where I often take note of the exceptional examples…gimme a day or two on this.:-)

        Hi, again,

Just a few examples. Definitely more out there but I can’t muster the attention span to gather them into a single list:

Stephanie Person, 46 – Ketogenic diet with animal fats
Steve Ludwin, 46 – snake venom
Jared Leto, 42 – vegan, some raw food tendencies, but not all out, Hollywood (no procedures)
William Shatner, 82 – Hollywood (procedures?), transhumanism
        Cher, 67
Archetypal Asiana 214 flight attendant, 40 – beauty routine, Asian diet
Chizu Saeki, 66 – beauty routine, Asian diet
Kim Carillo, 54 – nutritionist-tailored routine, healthy but not vegan or raw
Carole Maggio, 63 – facial exercises, diet, procedures

The notes following each name are just a brief summary of a few things they do or claim to do. Not sure if info is 100% accurate.

Anyway, I have major respect for veganism, but not so much for a 100% raw food diet. I believe that human digestion should receive a variety of food types and the contrast between cooked and raw just somehow feels (unscientifically, just an impression) ‘right’ for hominids who have evolved over a few million years with fire and beach-combing/scavenging.

        Have a good one.

Ok so I finally had the chance to research these names, thanks Paul. All impressive no doubt, (except for the ones that obviously have had plastic surgery like Cher and WS), but not definitely not nearly as impressive as the fab 6 in this article. Take for instance, Chizu Saeki. Compare her with Anette Larkins, who is 6 years older. Look how incredibly younger she looks. It’s a no brainer. Yeah some are successful at “maintaining” their youthfulness, but I’ve seen so many examples, IN PERSON of people who are turning back their biological clock. My mom is one of those people. In less than a year of an 80% raw food diet, she looks incredibly younger and so much happier. And she’s not even 100% raw. It’s a whole other ball game. I agree that it may not be necessary to go 100% raw, but the idea is to keep the majority of the diet raw (and WILD better yet) because one receives pure nutrition this way. And it’s not only about food, they integrate many other living principles that allow them to stay this young. I think everyone will agree that the foods that are the least refined, processed, cooked, molecularly changed from the state in which Mother Nature gave it to us, are the best foods. And the purpose of this post was to show the success of those living this way. I truly believe that the appearance of a pesron is what truly shows the state of their health. Just like when you’re tending plants, the only way to know how they’re doing (any deficiencies or other issues) is to determine this by their appearance.

This is a great article. I’m very inspired by all of these wonderful examples, except for Markus Rothkranz. I don’t think he deserves to be in the same prestigious list because he’s had cosmetic surgery. So he should be disqualified for that reason. Don’t you think?

My food and beverage is mostly all raw vegan with condiments of other foods and less animal used sparingly . It is the missing leafy greens and the above ground and below ground edibles that is missing in the Standard American Diet and we need more organic in our lives. Sprouts are very important for maximizing nutrition. Thank you Anne Wigmore for all our teachings to help me lose all that weight . Holistic Chef Barry

    Hi Diana,

I was very interested in your article, and the subsequent blogs. I am 57 years young, and feel absolutely great! I grew up eating meat just one day a week, since we were too “poor” to eat it. Never ate much meat, but this last year or so cut out all but good quality wild caught fish a couple times a week. Other than that, eat all raw vegan organic diet-vegetables/fruits that I grow, beans I sprout, nuts and seeds. I swim, walk, dance and do abdominal exercise regularly. I am regularly told I look about 40 or so, and can easily keep up with my 3 grandkids! I’m excited to go outside every day and decide what I want to “pick” for my meals! Ginny M.~

I shared this article on my FB wall. My loved girlfriend is much into 100% rawveganism, I am in the transition period. What I can tell is that, firstly I lost 24 Kg in a year, secondly I feel much stronger and healthier. I had no headaches anymore ( before I had painkillers with daily), I don’t know what is to have flu or sore throat anymore.
My body is shaping up greatly. I want to remark my thought. I don’t care if at 46 I look 20 or 55, what I care about is health and when you are healthy you enjoy life. Remember : you are what you eat!!

A sensational article, because a few photos prove nothing. There are people who don’t eat raw and also look young. This has nothing to do with causality. Mind you, I also eat some of my food raw. I wake up with a smoothie of fruits, nuts, and seeds, supplemented with raw organic vitamins and minerals. However, I cook my food in the evening. Steaming to be exact. The raw food movement is religious and based on bad science. There are even cases of vegans with health issues, because animal products (properly produced) come with great health benefits. There is no one-size-fits-all kind of diet. If raw food works for you, then that’s fine. Besides, I believe that growing your own food is also an important factor here in the health discussion, which is overlooked.

Here’s a website that explains some of the myths of raw food: http://www.diseaseproof.com/archives/healthy-food-the-cold-truth-about-raw-food-diets.html

Hi Steven. Thank you for commenting. I’m not here to promote that I’ve found the absolute truth to your, my or anyone else’s dietary needs. That is the individual’s mission. My purpose for this article is just to share with others an idea that everyone would agree with. A diet of MOSTLY natural / wild, organic local foods, in their raw state supplies the most abundant amount of nutrients to any organism, and the 6 amazing people in this article are icons that have been successful with this method. I’m also learning through these very same people that it is not only food that can heal and reverse aging, but it is certainly the foundation. There are a lot of flaws in the article you provided. A commenter on the post said it best, research his arguments:

“Sorry Doc, but the cell wall argument for cooking is weak when you compare it to other evidence. When you eat cooked food your body reacts as if poisoned. This triggers an immune response called leukocytosis where the white blood cells increase up to 300%. Leukocytosis was once considered a normal reaction to eating, but it does not happen when we eat raw food.
Cooked food also causes Mucoid Plaque which coats the intetinal track and causes malabsorption. Our bodies create their first mucus as a baby when we eat our first cooked food. This mucus acts as a protective filter; it protects the digestive tract from the toxic cooked food. The digestive tract is meant to absorb the nutrients from food, but the mucus prevents this from happening. If Raw Food isn’t right then why does it offer complete disease reversal in every case? What other treatment/diet/surgery has the same results? None that I have found.”

Also Steven, if you’re getting enough nutrients through your diet, have you asked yourself why you need to supplement with vitamins and minerals? Any movement can be religious and based on bad science depending on where and how you look at it. Have you looked into the peer reviewed studies of Edward Howell and enzymes in foods? Would you say that his scientific studies that have been published in science journals are bad science? I’m sure you don’t even know who that is. And so what exactly makes this doctor (from the article you’ve shared) correct, and not Dr. Howell? The way I like to look at it is to follow nature’s laws as closely as possible. If Nature gives me a fruit or vegetable, but does not give me a man made pan and cooking stove, you will find me eating the fruit / vegetable in its raw state. It just makes sense to me. Nature is simple. Why does eating and nutrition have to be complicated? Because Man has made it so:)

Hi. I eat heavily vegan and some Raw but at this time am unable to go 100 %. Due to Food Allergies and Sensitivities, I have to be peanut and nut free. Seeds kinda bother me as well. I am also GF and soy free. On top of that, I have to gain or at least maintain my weight! Can one gain weight on a Raw Diet without nuts and seeds? Would bananas and avocados be enough for getting healthy fats and calories? Thanks.

Great article! I’ve been vegetarian for 21 years, a vegan for 14, and high raw for about four. I am 36 but most people think I am in my early twenties. Sometimes they mistaken me and my 19 year old sister as twins. My husband is 40 but people think is he is 22-27. My mom is also a health nut. She’s 58 but gets mistaken for 35. The other members of our family are aging “normally”.

Great article. I have been doing cleansing regimens for 9 years. As time has gone on I just feel I want to eat a majority of fruit. How my body reacts now from eating only fruit is I feel so full of life and have lots of energy. I tried to only eat fruit soon after I started doing cleansing regimens in mid September 2005. My body had a much more negative reaction to eating this way back then. I felt more at peace and happier but after 2 days of eating only fruit I became so weak I thought I would die. Because of this I decided to eat many unhealthy foods to sustain myself. I loved how the fruit made me feel I just couldn’t handle it because I becamer very weak back then. I decided then to continue the cleansing regimens by me doing juice fasts and water fasts and drinking very large amounts of water or juice. After a 2 day juice fast in late January 2011 I started to only feel energy from eating fruit. I ate fresh fruit for 3 days 2 months and felt so energized and so happy. How my body reacts to only eating fruit is so different to how it used to make me feel. My goal in life is to inspire people to do cleansing regimens and not to change their diet because when I crash dieted on only eating fruit I felt I had to stop or I would have died. My advice to people is do not crash diet because it can make you ill or kill you. Do cleansing regimens and overtime you will want to change your diet. Pay attention to how you feel always by what you eat. Dont do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. I drink water often till I get nausa and have no complications in doing this. I just get nausa and stopped drinking. Soon after the nausa goes away and I have a bowelmovent. My focus more then anything is to have as many bowelmovents as possible. The more I get myself to have bowelmovents the better I feel. The more positive I feel too.

very impressive… just wondering about this raw vegan diet:
I guess that just eating raw vegetables, you just can absorb and digest as much food as if you cook it then significantly decreasing your daily calories ? Could raw veganism involve some sort of caloric restriction as well ? Would also like to know whether the 5 above are essentially optimistic in nature, happy in life and preserved from (oxydative) stress !

Keep up the (primarily-) raw food diet you’re on and in time you could be the most beautiful mature lady to ever grace this earth. I’m guessing you’re about my age now, maybe a couple of years older, but you’re really quite stunning. Hope you don’t mind the compliment – I’m just passing, looking further into raw veganism and read this post of yours. They’re looking very well for their ages. I’m practically a vegan now, aside from occasional dairy or honey; if I hadn’t been converted to making a greater change in my diet, then I feel I have after seeing this. Of course it’s best to listen to what the body needs or desires, so your approach is a sensible one. Thanks for your interesting blog post.

LA, ‘City of Angels’, right? Mostly false angels, but I guess a few true ones slip through…

Thank you for this post. I love people who share with the world the truth on health. You are saving so many people who read this and make their conscious decisions to change. It’s funny that when opposing people come at with articles that try to shut your post down, they don’t respond back after you back up your info and deny any legitimacy of their article. I myself have been a raw vegan for only 5 months. In two weeks, the cyst that has grown on my chest for over a year, has shrunk down to nothing. Just TWO weeks! 3 weeks, I had the taste of novacain in my mouth after 10 years of not receiving any novacain. I had almost full reconstruction of my teeth 10 years ago. I always had a lump on my gums which is no longer their. That was 3 weeks in. 5 months in, scars from acne has almost completely disappeared. Also, although not a raw vegan at this time, last August as a 2 year vegan, I successfully finished an Ironman in canada. Thank you. I also have lots of success stories from veganism and raw veganism.
